This year was just… huge. It was huge for me, it was huge for my business, it was huge for my family. I look back on 2021 and don’t recognize my life at all. So much has evolved, and we’ve had so many blessings. I’m grateful for all the challenges, all the twists and turns, because each one of them was crucial to our growth and development. I want to thank all of you also for finding us valuable enough to follow us on our journey, and for ultimately investing in yourself! I think we should all spend time at the end of every year to assess where we’ve been and what we’ve accomplished. We need to think about our lessons learned in 2022 so we can be grateful for what we’ve been through and where we’re going. We can also learn a lot from what went wrong so we can do better. All this reflection will set us up for amazing goals and big dreams for the next year. I’ll start!
1. Insane Business Growth!
I’m proud to say that I started two new businesses and launched my personal brand successfully. I’m in love with what I do, and I have so many ideas. I cannot wait to keep growing more and more.
2. Hubby’s on the Team
Larry quit his job to join our business full-time, which was huge. It made me feel really validated that he was so invested in our future and believed so much in our success that he was willing to do this.
3. Listened to My Gut
I’ve had a long life of constant doubt in myself and my abilities. I’m plagued with perfectionism and fear of failure. Thankfully, this year was full of self-growth where I learned to trust my gut instincts, and it paid off.
4. Grace and Forgiveness for Lessons Learned in 2022
I’m very guilty of biting off more than I can chew. At the same time, you never know your limits until you push them. I’ve learned not to over-extend myself, and when I do, I also give myself grace and forgiveness.
5. Community is Ever-Changing
I’ve learned that it’s okay to outgrow your friends. People are in your life for seasons, and it can be hard to move on to the next season without them. But sometimes, it’s important to the wellbeing of you and your family to only keep the people in your life who support your growth.
6. Investing in Myself
Money is a tool for growth, not a scarce resource to hoard. Investing in myself and my business has paid off ten-fold as we’ve been able to fast track our growth and start earning money back on what we’ve invested.
7. Everyone Can Teach You Something
I’ve learned to enjoy learning from others and to seek insight from people that are where you want to be. I’ve sought out mentors and friends in the industry who I can grow with and learn from.
8. Don’t Like It? I Don’t Care.
I’ve learned not to give a SHIT about what anyone thinks about my social media presence, goals, and actions – it is likely a reflection of their own insecurities and lack-mindsets.
9. Create the World that Inspires You
I’ve learned to mute people on social media that do not inspire good feelings in my heart, mind, and life. I have very little time and mental space already, I don’t need to waste it on negative energy!
10. Lean Into It!
I’ve learned to lean into the momentum. Once I start moving the needle, I go full-tthrottle because that’s when you see major payoffs.
11. I Make Mistakes
I’ve been working on my first book, which covers all the mistakes I’ve ever made on my entrepreneurial journey so that others can learn from them. Admitting my mistakes is difficult and humbling, but it’s also extremely powerful. Failure is not the end, it is a lesson learned if you take the opportunity to use it to your advantage.
12. Just Kidding!
Larry went BACK to work because we realized we weren’t financially ready for him to come on full-time. A mistake made, a lesson learned, but it isn’t the end. We are excited for when he really can quit his job completely and work for our business.
13. The Comfort Zone is a Dream Killer
I’ve learned to get out of my comfort zone because that’s when real growth happens. Biggest leap of faith? Hello Behind the Business Summit! When I started organizing, I was hopeful but also still suffering from serious doubts. Because of my leap of faith, people agreed to participate that I NEVER would have thought would even reply. Now I have a successful event under my belt and tons of new subscribers!
14. Network, Network, Network
Okay, this is something you always hear, but you never fully understand until you experience it. Networking is super powerful, mamas. There’s nothing like it. To know people who can empathize with you and genuinely lift you up is so important for us mom-preneurs. We need all the help we can get.
15. Practice Makes Better
One of my biggest insecurities has been public speaking. I know that’s a super common fear for most people. Lots of people go their entire lives completely avoiding that, and it works for them. I knew that, for my business, I needed to just get comfortable with the whole thing. From my summit to podcasting (check out my Making Mommy Moves Show!), I’ve practiced speaking to people in mass quantities. I wouldn’t say practice makes perfect, but it certainly makes better.
