Making Mommy Moves Episode 13: Mommy Self-Care

If you’re not a happy mama, your kids aren’t going to be happy either. Mommy self-care is key to family care.

If you’re not doing what brings joy to your life and prioritizing mommy self-care, then you’ll begin resenting your life and those that are demanding your attention. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but moms who don’t take care of themselves often find it difficult to enjoy time with their kids. Time to turn things around: make yourself happy so you can make your kids happy!

Today’s Goal: Invest time in reconnecting with activities, hobbies, and interests that you’ve given up due to prioritizing your household responsibilities.

IN THIS EPISODE, WE TALK ABOUT:

  • How common it is for moms to lose touch with themselves and what makes them happy
  • Prioritizing mommy self-care isn’t selfish, it’s necessary!
  • Moms who carve out time to recharge and reconnect with themselves are more patient, present, and happy around their families

Episode 13 Transcript: Mommy Self-Care

Hey everybody, welcome back to the show. This is the Making Mommy Moves Show with Lyss Morton. I’m so excited you’re here with us today as we talk about self-care and the importance of it as well.

Especially if you’re building a business or working full time. working multiple jobs, at home with your kids, whatever you’re doing. You need to take care of yourself. This is going to be a quickie, so don’t worry if you don’t have a ton of time. I’m very, very cautious of that. And I know that even the slightest bit of inspiration that you can fit in your life is going to change your life.

So are you taking care of yourself? Are you a happy mama? If you’re not a happy mama, your kids are not going to be happy either. Or you’re going to have less patience for your kids. You’re not going to enjoy your time with the kids. You’re probably going to be a little resentful.

Are you resentful? If you’re feeling resentful, you’re probably burnt out. You’re probably tired. You probably have a hobby that you’re not getting to, a self-care routine that you’re not taking advantage of. That you don’t have the time or maybe you enjoy getting a workout in, maybe you do pottery, maybe enjoy going dancing, maybe enjoy a night out with your girlfriends. Make the time for it. Get that babysitter on lock. Ask your friends or your family or your grandfather, whoever, to watch your kids. So that you can go have some alone time.

Take a shower by yourself. Go take a bath, get a massage, get a facial, go dancing, and do what brings you joy in your life. Because if you’re not happy and filled with joy, I promise you’re not enjoying your time. That’s a hard one to swallow. Right? Do you ever feel like you’re not enjoying your time with your kids? I do. I do a lot actually. And I know that is linked to my lack of time or my lack of priority of time for self-care.

Lately, I’ve been really trying to figure out how to fit my CrossFit workouts into my calendar. And I’m telling you it’s been a struggle, especially if I’m freelance designing for other florists and I can’t get back until six o’clock and the last class was at 5:30. When I’m up with the kids all night and I just can’t get out of bed at 4:45 to make it to the 5am. Maybe I need to be a little bit easier on myself. Maybe I need to acknowledge where I’m having difficulties and try to find other solutions.

But you need to have that self-care. What kind of changes can you make in your life to get the self-care that you need? What kind of changes can you make in your life to have the joy that brings you a life that makes life worth loving? That brings you beyond like happiness that you just can’t help but love life when you’re doing it? Is a dating your spouse? Isn’t rollerskating in the park? Is it playing volleyball or tennis? Golf, surfing, swimming, do the things that bring you so much happiness in your life.

And then watch your life change. Watch how much better you are with your kids. Watch how much happier you are to be around them, how much more patience you have. Watch how much happier they are to have a more present mama. It’s gonna be amazing.

Do the things that bring you joy. Do the things that inspire you, do the things that make life worth living and watch everything get so much better.

I told you that would be a quickie. I was so excited that you tuned in for this episode. And if you have any feedback, if you have any questions, tag me with your favorite thing to do that brings you joy in your life and how you’re going to make it a priority this week to get it done. Tag me on Instagram or Tiktok @lyss.morton, show me what you’re doing and I can’t wait to repost it on my story and connect with you about it, because I think that that’s what makes us mom friends, right?

Enjoy the rest of your week and I’ll see you at the next one. Bye!
