Making Mommy Moves Episode 4: 3 Ways to Be More Productive

Have you ever noticed just how much time you spend on your phone distracted instead of taking advantage of time with your kids or getting work done? It’s a difficult pill to swallow, but you need to be more productive with your time.

I’m the Queen of To-Do Lists, but I still struggle with staying on top of my day, being productive, and still enjoying my free time with my kids to the fullest extent. The biggest culprit? TIME-SUCKERS! If you don’t think you’d be satisfied at the end of a long unproductive day, then it’s time to pull out the magnifying glass and analyze just what you’re doing (or not doing) that’s wasting your life away.

Today’s Goals: Identify your major time-suckers and start eliminating them from your habits and routine so you can get back to loving your life to the fullest.


  • Figuring out what your priorities are so you can get your life back on track to reach your goals
  • Being honest with yourself about the way you spend your time
  • Identifying tasks, habits, and vices that are major time-suckers and getting in your way

Episode 4 Transcript: 3 Ways To Be More Productive

Hello, and welcome to the Making Mommy Moves show. This is your host, Alyssa Morton. Hey everyone, welcome to another episode of The Making Mommy Moves Show. I’ve got another quickie for you today and I’m so excited to dive in with you talking about prioritizing time.

How many moms can relate to the not having enough time in our day dilemma? Our to-do lists are likely three years long, your day schedule is likely going down the drain as soon as your kids get up, and you’re feeling guilty if you’re productive and you’re feeling guilty if you’re not. I want to talk about prioritizing time.

I’m the queen of to-do list, and I still feel this every single day. But I want to talk about what helped me and my husband when we were trying to be as productive as possible. First, I want you to look at your goals. Why do you want more time? Spending with kids? Are you trying to get a project done? You want to start a side hustle or business?

Then I want you to see what is actually sucking your time are you lollygagging throughout the day? What I mean by that is are you taking a million years to get something that you could just hustle through and get it done? Like watering for example? If you’re like me, and you wait four days to switch the washer and dryer, I’ll have to wash it three times over and over again and then wait another six days to fold it.

Or are you on your phone a lot and don’t even realize that. I know for me, I’ll get sucked in when I check the time. I’ll check my email and then before you know I’m 45 minutes into Instagram. Where are you taking less priority tasks and getting those done before eating the frog? Are you familiar with that? Eating the frog first. You want to get any tests done that are the hardest first so then you feel the most accomplished the hardest thing is done and then anything else like it was easy peasy.

Then I want you to make the change once you know what your goals are and you see what sucking your time. Now I want you to start small and actually make a major shift slowly with consistent action to create long-lasting results and new habits.

So I want you to start hiding your phone for the first hour of your day and see how productive you are in that time. Start reading at night instead of watching TV. Start acknowledging how often you end up on Instagram or Facebook or Tik Tok while you’re with your kids instead of having intentional time with them.

All these time suckers are wasting your life. At the end of the day, will you be happy if you spent the whole day on productively or in a way that you did not intentionally see it playing out?
